Granted, the elder Fangs and their diehard devotion to their "craft" seems a bit much yet there are folks who throw themselves fully into something like that in order to feel special(another form of selfishness,if you will)and will disregard the feelings of others while claiming to be highly sensitive.lady thttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16287907577241697874noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5060047013304842896.post-57213456701947051502012-05-17T11:36:06.405-05:002012-05-17T11:36:06.405-05:00I had trouble with whether or not the relationship...I had trouble with whether or not the relationship between A and B and the parents was supposed to be seriously believable, or if it was more a parody - I suspect the latter, but for most of the book I was thinking the former, and therefore thinking, "how ridiculous."Greg Zimmermanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08122230426442946518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5060047013304842896.post-88444098337747784062012-05-17T11:33:58.232-05:002012-05-17T11:33:58.232-05:00Yeah, Annie/Buster parts - especially at the begin...Yeah, Annie/Buster parts - especially at the beginning, as their lives are falling apart - were really interesting. I wish the novel had just been about that. And, good call on Wes Anderson - wish I would've thought of that before reading. ;)Greg Zimmermanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08122230426442946518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5060047013304842896.post-21779146695573124152012-05-17T11:33:04.371-05:002012-05-17T11:33:04.371-05:00So now, I'm curious - what was it that made yo...So now, I'm curious - what was it that made you love it?Greg Zimmermanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08122230426442946518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5060047013304842896.post-40410137431263696552012-05-16T13:28:48.993-05:002012-05-16T13:28:48.993-05:00I agree with your review -- mostly the part about ...I agree with your review -- mostly the part about not being enthralled with the "art". We read this for book club, and several people simply loved it. One in particular identified with the relationship between the parents and the Annie/Buster. For me, not being able to identify with the relationships, and finding the premise kind of ridiculous made it one of those books that's not bad, but not amazing for me.A Super Girlhttp://www.booknookclub.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5060047013304842896.post-35717732139695760472012-05-14T18:16:32.741-05:002012-05-14T18:16:32.741-05:00I loved this book, but I think my admiration came ...I loved this book, but I think my admiration came more from the parts dealing with Annie and Buster's adulthood, rather than their pranks. It also helped too that I just pictured it as a Wes Anderson playing in my head the entire time I read.Christinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02287501540207945678noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5060047013304842896.post-21056924322248186652012-05-14T16:37:35.666-05:002012-05-14T16:37:35.666-05:00Greg, I saw on Goodreads that you only gave this t...Greg, I saw on Goodreads that you only gave this three stars. I was curious why and was hoping you would write a review. I loved the book, but you make good points and I can see how it wouldn't appeal to every reader. Great review.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
